És recomanable fer servir la ventosa sobre superfícies completament llises, netes i no poroses, com vidre, miralls, marbre polit i certs laminats plàstics. No és efectiva sobre superfícies rugoses, poroses o amb textura, com fusta sense tractar, guix o materials texturitzats, ja que no s’aconsegueix el buit necessari per a una subjecció segura.
